The other day, a friend of mine asked me to print out a copy of an article in my blog. Then I launch Firefox browser, key in my blog name and select File -> Print Preview.

I saw only partial of my blog in the preview. The alignment of my article is wrong. The images are missing or misalignment.

I print out my blog article. The result is the same as what I preview.

I always like Wordpress very much. You can almost find any plugin to resolve your blogging problem. So I do a search for Wordpress plugin for printing.

I found a plugin known as “ Print Friendly and PDF”.

• You can download the plugin from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/printfriendly/

• Download the printfriendly.zip file and unzip it.

• Move the printfriendly folder into wp-content/plugins folder .

• Activate the plugin in your WordPress Admin area.

• Select “Settings” to customize button style and placement.

Settings

At Settings, you can select what you like. See Settings below.

Result

This plugin allows the page to be converted to PDF or to print to printer.

At the bottom of each of my blog article you will see “Print PDF“. Click on it if you want to print or have a PDF version of my article.

The output is good. What you see in the blog article is exactly when you convert to PDF or print to printer. There is no missing images or misalignment, no missing text.

Use Outbrain Plugin to get blog reader to read more of your articles

When a reader has reached your blog, very often they will just read the article that was displayed in front of him/her. Maybe they might browse and read a few more articles below current posting. That’s it. They will leave your blog.

Very rarely will they browse through the archives column to read your older articles.

There is a method whereby

•    Older articles are displayed randomly with the picture of the article displayed

•    No work require from you (This part is what I like!!)

•    It will be displayed at the bottom of every article.

There is a wordpress plugin name outbrain.

You need to download the plugin and activate. Just like any other plugin installation

Basically what it does is that it will display some old articles in a few columns (depending on your setting) at the bottom of each posting.

Let’s say you set at 4 columns. It will display 3 columns of your old articles & 1 column of image belonging to advertiser who paid outbrain.

If you post your article with picture, it will display the picture at the column together with posting title. I notice that if you post an article with no picture and later update it with picture. The outbrain plugin will still display words only.

See below example.

People are more attracted to pictures than words. Therefore this method of attracting your reader to read more of your articles is effective. They just need to click on one of the column and it will bring them to that post.

There are many ways to get traffic to your blog. One of the ways I found it effective is to install a Facebook Plugin known as FbLikeButton.

It will display the Like symbol at your blog. You can configure to place it at the top and/or at the bottom of your posting. As for me, I configure for both locations.

If you click on the Like symbol, it will try to detect your Facebook name.

Once it detected it, it will display your Facebook name at the blog.

If you go to your own facebook’s wall(eg http://www.facebook.com/alwinchuah), it will display the blog title and the blog site link.

However I notice it will post the article link to your facebook wall only once. Even though you click a few times on Like symbol or a few days later you try to click the Like symbol on the same article. However if you click Like symbol on a new article from the same blog site, it will publish it on your Facebook’s wall.

Basically what is posted on the Facebook’s wall can be seen by your friends. If they are interested on the topic, they will click on the title. It will then lead them to the blog page.

Increase Traffic

So the best way is once you have posted your article on your blog, click on the Like symbol yourself. It will then display your blog title and link at your Facebook’s wall. Your Facebook’s friends will then be able to click on the link and visit your blog. If they like it, they will click on the Like button, your blog article title will then be displayed in your friends’ Facebook’s wall. If your friend’s friends.click on the title, it will lead them your blog. This is how you get traffic from Facebook.
