Captcha is a WordPress plugin used for preventing spammers, which used automated posting, from pasting their items at your comment post.

When a reader of your blog wishes to post a comment, he will need to perform a simple step to ensure he is a human and not spambots.

Depending on what type of Captcha plugin being used by the blogger, the reader at times need to:-

•    add 2 items together
•    key in the words or numbers displayed
•    answer a question.
•    key in alphabets & numbers combine

There are many types of Captcha plugins.

As for me I like to use the Captcha plugin created by Zorex.

It is known as Simple Captcha plugin.

It will display a 6 digits number. The reader just need to key in the numbers.

I do not like the Captcha that display alphabets & numbers. At times it is quite difficult to see whether the alphabet is capital or small letter.

Also I do not like words that display in different fonts. Some fonts are big while others are small. It is really irritating.

Therefore when you install a Captcha plugin, do consider to made it simple for your reader, else they will not post any comment.

Here is the link to the Simple Captcha plugin

You can see at the Security Code column requesting the reader to key in the 6 digits displayed. This 6 digits will randomly change.

Let say your web site name is ABC123ABC.com

As far as Google Search Engine is concern http://www.ABC123ABC.com & http://ABC123ABC.com are two separate websites, even though both point to the same web content. As a result, it will affect your search engine ranking.

Therefore we need to select one of the above as your main website. Most of the time people will choose the website starting with WWW.

This meant you  need to redirect your reader who key in http://ABC123ABC.com to http://www.ABC123ABC.com automatically.

Following are the steps:-

•    In the WordPress Software, you need to login to your Admin Area
•    Select Settings
•    Then go to WordPress address URL & Blog address URL .
•    Add in the WWW as the diagram below.
•    Click on “Save Changes” at the bottom of the screen
•    Then at the URL try keying your blog site without the WWW. You will notice it will redirect your WWW website

If you could not see the picture clearly. Mouse to the picture & double click on it. It will display in full screen.

Nowadays WordPress software release version changes has become very frequently. Sometime it could be as little as 2 months a new version will be release.

If you ask me as a blogger, must we always update the WordPress version all the time? My answer is Yes. Very often the release is to fix security bug or close some loophole.
Of course at times, the release is to add new features or to resolve some bug.

As for me, I am very cautious when it comes to security.

You do not want to wake up one morning and found yourself cannot access to your own blog. This will be a nightmare for bloggers.

In fact I have personally experience the above nightmare. Someone actually change my password to something else. As a result I was lockout from my own blog.

That’s why each time WordPress release a new version. I will quickly update it.

In the past, each time I want to upgrade the version. I will backup all the WordPress files into my PC from my web hosting company. Delete the necessary files and copy new files into the web hosting’s harddisk. I will also backup my blog.

This process is very tedious and you need to check the instruction steps to upgrade carefully. Also I need to recheck that I copy the right files.

This process can, at times, take up a whole day as I do not have a very high speed link.

This is known as a manual process.

You might be thinking is there a faster and less painful way to upgrade the version as frequently as you wish?

The answer is Yes and it is free too. However it is encouraged to donate to the author (keithdsouza, ronalfy) of this solution.
