If you are in affiliate marketing, you might want to take these steps to prevent someone replacing your affiliate codes.

For those who are not aware what affiliate marketing is, I will run through a quick introduction. Affiliate marketing is basically promoting someone else’s product and you are paid by the product owner a percentage of the sales value as a commission.

Usually the owner identifies each reseller by giving a code. Also known as Affiliate link.

Example of an affiliate link for ClickBank products

abcdef.expertwp.hop.clickbank.net

Suppose the above is your affiliate link to promote a certain ClickBank Product.

Someone can easily replace the abcdef with someone else’s ID and you will lost the sale.

In order to prevent it you need to hide or cloak it to prevent someone snatching your commission.

Following are the steps you need to take.

  • Download the sample file from Here
  • Unzip the redirect.zip
  • Use Notepad to open the file
  • The following will be displayed
  • <HTML>

    <HEAD>

    <TITLE>Welcome</TITLE>

    </HEAD>

    <FRAMESET ROWS=”100%”>

    <FRAME SRC=”http://your affiliate weblink.net“>

    <NOFRAMES>

    <HEAD>

    <TITLE>Welcome</TITLE>

    <META HTTP-EQUIV=”REFRESH” CONTENT=”0; URL=’http://your affiliate weblink.net‘”>

    </HEAD>

    <BODY>

    <P>Your browser does not seem to support frames or frame support has been disabled.</P>

    <P>Please <A HREF=”http://your affiliate weblink.net“>click here</A> to proceed to the site.</P>

    </BODY>

    </NOFRAMES>

    </FRAMESET>

    </HTML>

    Replace those bold items with your affiliate link .
    Save the txt file.

    Rename the text file to any name that you desire.

    However it must end with html. Eg anyname.html

    Launch your FTP program to upload the above file to your web hosting company.

    ftp scr 300x152 Free Method to hide your affiliate link

    At your remote site, create a folder known as go, recommend or any name that you fancy.

    Then copy the above anyname.html.

    The link will be http://www.Yourwebsite.com/go/anyname

    So instead of promoting http://abcdef.expertwp.hop.clickbank.net.

    You will be promoting http://www.Yourwebsite.com/go/anyname

    Also at the URL, your readers will only see http://www.Yourwebsite.com/go/anyname

    And not http://abcdef.expertwp.hop.clickbank.net. This way you will be protecting your affiliate link from being changed by someone else.

    You can see my own link. I used the same method that I mentioned above. Feel free to click the link below to get the idea how exactly it work. Pay attention to the URL, there is no display of your affliliate link.

    Like people always say, a picture worth a thousand words.

    However I have seen a lot of blog postings with writings only.

    Do you know that most people are attracted to picture first then only words?

    If you don’t believe me, observe which item on a blog that attracts you first!

    Most of the time, it is title heading, pictures and follow by words.

    So it pays to insert pictures with your blog posting.

    So the next question you might ask is, I am not a good photographer, so where can I get good photos?

    In the internet, you can get paid & free photos.

    There are some sites that have people upload pictures and allow other people to freely use it for free.

    One of the web site that I like to go to get photos for my blog is

    www.sxc.hu

    Following is the picture of the website.

    Do you know there is a BIG risk in WordPress ID?

    Well actually the risk is in the ID itself!

    When you first time install the WordPress software, it will generate a default ID known as ‘Admin’, then you will get a default password too.

    The Password look complicated, so you think this is good enough, right?

    Let me explain here.

    Most of the hacker knows the default ID is Admin, the only thing they do not know is the password. In WordPress software, you can retry keying in the password as many times as you wish without revoking the ID. This, in my opinion, is one of the weaknesses in the WordPress Software.

    In other applications, your ID will be revoke once you retry 3 times (depending on the administrator’s setting). In some computer installation, you password need to be change at a certain frequency depending on the administrator’s setting (monthly or bi-monthly)

    Let me share with you my personal story. A few years ago, I have another blog site. This is my first blog site. Luckily I have not post a lot of information yet.

    One day, I found myself unable to login to my ID. Can you guess what ID I am using?

    That’s right, I am using Admin ID.

    So I login to my web hosting account and check the MySQL database. True enough, someone has changed my Admin ID password. Also another ID was created.

    Luckily, I was able to reset the Admin ID and managed to log in.

    So in term of best practice,create an ID with Admin privilege. Use the new ID for your daily use.  If you already have an Admin ID, delete this ID. Don’t keep it, else someone might one day hack into your blogsite using the Admin ID.
